Galena Estate

The Planning

This project was a new home construction with a blank slate yard backing up to a wooded area. After being referred to the client wee were brought in the project with no real design idea just weeks before final construction of the home. Our clients two primary focuses were a large area for grilling and entertaining along with a unique gardening area.

The Design

The expansive main staircase was the first design element added, to provide access to multiple doors. The basic staircase design with oversized treads allows for easy access to the kitchen and living areas during large events. The overall design of the main patio was meant to: Allow for plenty of room during large functions, maintain viewing of the natural wooded area and to fit with the scale and design of the craftsman inspired home.

The garden area with it's circular sidewalk was the most challenging part of the design. Two doors, two AC units, utilities and a generator all created problems in designing a balnaced and unique garden area. The central bed was designed a focal point for an ornamental tree, sculpture or a water feature.

The Construction

The main patio was completed on time with the major change being the enlargement of the grill walls and columns. Additional lighting was added and landscape beds were installed around the home.

The unplanned second phase was to turn the grill walls and columns into an outdoor kitchen. In a testament to the versatility of pavers the area was transformed with the new kitchen and additional lower level patio with bar seating. The custom pergola, arbor and fence were also added.
